Sun Youzhong

SUN Youzhong is a Professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University and a distinguished scholar in foreign language education and intercultural communication in China. He serves as Director of the China Ministry of Education Steering Committee for Undergraduate Programs in Foreign Languages and Literatures, Director of the BFSU National Research Institute for Foreign Language Teaching Materials. He is also Vice President of AsiaTEFL, and President of the China English Language Education Association. Professor Sun’s research interests span foreign language education, intercultural studies, international communication, and American studies. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Global Forum and the author of numerous academic books, including Core Values: A Cross-Cultural Perspective; Decoding China’s Image: A Comparative Study of the China Reporting by The New York Times and The Times, 1993–2002; The Symbol of American Spirit: John Dewey’s Social Thought; Modern American Popular Culture; Approaching America; and American Cultural Industry. He has also edited several influential book series, such as English Education and Liberal Arts Education; Classics of Western Thought; Intercultural Mass Communication; Intercultural Communication Studies: New Frontiers; Intercultural Communication Studies: New Perspectives; and the Cultural Studies Reader Series. In addition to publishing extensively in academic journals in China and internationally, he has translated several works in philosophy and media studies. He is also the chief editor of widely-used textbook series, including Understanding Contemporary China, Think English, and Over to You.
