Translation Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre
The Translation Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) represents a pioneering initiative in translation education in China. Officially recognized as a Beijing Municipal Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission in January 2016, the Centre has evolved from its origins as interpreting teaching laboratories established in 2006 to become a comprehensive hub for translation pedagogy and research.
Infrastructure and Resources
The Centre spans 500 square meters across eight specialized facilities, housing state-of-the-art translation laboratories equipped with 287 workstations. Our infrastructure includes dedicated interpreting laboratories with simultaneous interpreting training systems accommodating over 120 students, computer-assisted translation laboratories featuring 163 workstations with professional CAT tools, and multimedia language laboratories supporting diverse training methodologies. The Centre has invested over 2 million RMB in cutting-edge translation technologies, including computer-assisted translation software, localization tools, subtitling applications, desktop publishing systems, and content management platforms.
Academic Excellence and Innovation
Serving over 500 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students annually across multiple language programs, the Centre has established itself as a cornerstone of BFSU’s translation education ecosystem. Our pedagogical approach integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application through innovative teaching models, including autonomous learning environments, collaborative workshops, and research-oriented practicum courses. The Centre maintains partnerships with more than 20 professional translation agencies, providing students with invaluable real-world experience through our student-run TransYes translation service.
Faculty and Management
The Centre operates under a dual management structure, combining university oversight with departmental autonomy to ensure both academic rigor and operational efficiency. Our team comprises dozens of faculty members, supported by dedicated laboratory management staff. This multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in translation theory, professional practice, and educational technology, creating a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for the evolving demands of the global translation industry.
Through continuous investment in technology, pedagogy, and human resources, the Translation Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre stands at the forefront of translation education in China, fostering the next generation of language professionals equipped to bridge cultures and facilitate international communication in an increasingly interconnected world.
