Intercultural Research Center


The Intercultural Research Center of the School of English and International Studies was established in 2008. Its mission is to build an open academic platform that leverages the multilingual strengths of Beijing Foreign Studies University to foster academic innovation in intercultural research between China and other countries. The center also aims to serve as an international hub for scholarly exchange and cooperation.


Its research areas include, but are not limited to: studies on domestic and foreign textbooks; American thought and culture; intercultural communication; international migration; second language education and acquisition; international communication; comparative studies of Chinese and Western civilizations; and public diplomacy.


Professor Hu Wenzhong, widely recognized as the “Father of Intercultural Communication Research in China,” serves as the center’s Honorary Director. Dr. Liu Yang is the current Director.
