The Irish Studies Centre
Established in March 2007, the Irish Studies Centre is the first multidisciplinary research institution in China dedicated to Irish studies. With the mission of promoting the development of Irish studies as an academic field in China, the Centre is committed to interdisciplinary research on Irish literature, culture, history, politics, economy, and international relations. Its aim is to advance Chinese academic exploration in these fields and to provide a platform for cultural exchanges between China and Ireland.
Since 2007, the Centre has been enrolling MA students in Irish studies, with two sub-directions: “Irish Literature and Culture” and “Politics and Economy.” It also admits doctoral students in the fields of “Irish Literature” and “European Studies.” Since 2010, the Centre has offered Irish language courses. In 2017, the Centre was officially registered with China’s Ministry of Education. It co-established the Irish Studies Network across China and has maintained close academic ties with renowned Irish universities such as Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University College Cork, and Maynooth University.
The Centre has conducted many research projects in the field of Irish Studies sponsored by national, provincial and international funding, and has published widely on the said field. In the process of its development, it has actively promoted Irish studies in China, carrying out research and academic activities on topics such as Irish literature, Ireland's international role, Sino-Ireland relations and Irish Economy.
