Australian Studies Centre
The Australian Studies Centre at the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), founded in 1983, is an accredited centre for country and regional studies under the Ministry of Education and is among the six co-founding institutions of the Joint Research Institute for Oceania under the Ministry of Education.
The Centre has an interdisciplinary Chinese and Australian academic team, boasts a well-developed post-graduate program and a solid research foundation. The courses offered include: Australian History, Australian Literature, Australian Language and Culture, Australian Gender Studies, Australian Cinema, Australian Foreign Policy, Australia-China Relations, Australian Government and Political System, Australia and International Organizations, Australian Economy & Australia-China Trade Relations, Australian National Identity, Australia and the World, Australian Political Thought.
The Centre maintains active international exchanges and academic activities, and has long been committed to social services. It edits Australian Studies in China, the only academic journal in China focusing on Australian studies, and compiles Blue Book of Australia: Annual Report on Development of Australia. The Centre also hosts the annual China-Australia Transcultural Studies Symposium (CATS) in partnership with the University of Western Australia, the University of Adelaide and Western Sydney University.
