Centre for Translation Studies
The centre for Socio-Translation Studies was established in 2021 under the School of English and International Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University. The centre is dedicated to studying the complex and evolving translation phenomena within society, examining the co-variance between translation and social structures, and analysing the constructive role of translation activities in socio-cultural formation. It also seeks to reveal how social factors condition and influence translation practices.
The centre prioritizes research into the global dissemination, circulation, and reception of literary and cultural works through translation. It also addresses emerging real-world socio-translation phenomena in translation professions and industries driven by social development and the rise of digital and AI technologies. Through these efforts, the centre seeks to advance the integration of translation research with translation pedagogy, professional practice and the broader translation industry.
