Center for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics
The Center for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, originally established as the Linguistics Research and Teaching Group in the late 1970s, is one of the earliest specialized teaching and research sections within the School of English and International Studies (formerly the English Department of Beijing Foreign Studies University) at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Since its inception, the center has been dedicated to research and teaching in both theoretical and applied linguistics. Currently, the center boasts a team of 26 full-time faculty members, including 9 professors and 8 associate professors, all of whom hold doctoral degrees in linguistics. This team, primarily composed of mid-career and young researchers, forms a high-level teaching and research group.
The center’s research interests comprehensively cover core and cutting-edge areas of linguistics, including phonetics, semantics, pragmatics, syntax, morphology, functional linguistics, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics, second language acquisition, historical linguistics, stylistics, foreign language teaching materials, corpus linguistics, language testing and assessment, theories and practices of English language teaching, psychology of language learning, open science, and AI-assisted language learning.
