Centre for Translation Studies
The Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) traces its roots to the Translation Teaching and Research Section within the English Department at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), where it has long been responsible for both teaching and academic research in the field of Translation Studies. The translation program was established in the 1950s, and many of BFSU’s senior professors are themselves alumni of this program.
The Centre maintains a distinguished academic team of eight professors (four of whom serve as doctoral supervisors), four associate professors, and three lecturers. The academic staff bring extensive international expertise spanning academic appointments at leading global universities, advanced research fellowships, and professional service at organizations such as UNESCO and the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).
The Centre is currently responsible for teaching and research in Translation Studies at both MA and PhD levels. It maintains a nationally leading position in key areas of Translation Studies, including translation and cross-cultural studies, translation technologies, translation theory, interpreting theory and practice, socio-translation studies, cognitive translation studies and translation pedagogy. The Centre has cultivated generations of specialists grounded in Chinese cultural heritage with global perspectives, critical analysis skills, and cross-cultural competence. They hold key positions in academia, central government ministries and leading enterprises worldwide.
