MTI Education Center
The MTI Education Center of the School of English and International Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) was established in 2007 and began enrolling students in 2008. The center has a faculty of over 30 full-time instructors and supervisors, including approximately half who are professors and doctoral supervisors. Additionally, around 20 expert advisors from translation and interpreting related institutions and companies are appointed to support the program.
The center currently offers three specialized programs:
1. Translation (Written) – focused on Translating Political Texts
2. Translation (Written) – focused on Translating Humanities.
3. Interpretation: Advanced Interpreter Training
Each year, the center admits over 110 students in total across these programs.
The center brings together a high-caliber team of faculty in translation and interpreting research, practice, and pedagogy, while leading industry professionals are appointed as external mentors. The programs maintain close ties with the industry via internship partnership with major institutions in translation and interpreting, including the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, China International Communications Group (CICG), Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, Global Times, and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP).
In 2016, the two-year master’s program in Advanced Interpreter Training was established and it offers curriculum for the program that combines core modules on theory and practice (Introduction to Interpreting Studies, International Conference Interpreting, Mock Conference Interpreting, Simultaneous Interpreting, and E-C/C-E Consecutive Interpreting) and specialized electives (Technical Writing & Translation, Diplomatic Interpreting, Business Interpreting, and Translation & Localization).
