Canadian Studies Center

Founded in the 1980s, the Canadian Studies Center of Beijing Foreign Studies University is among China’s earliest Canadian studies institutions. With over 40 years of development, it boasts landmark achievements: being among the first selected into the Ministry of Education’s National and Regional Studies Bases (2011) and CTTI, and repeatedly winning BFSU’s Excellent Research Collective Award.

Adhering to a global vision in talent cultivation, it has built a comprehensive “undergraduate-master-doctor-postdoctoral” system. It launched China’s first Canadian Studies Master’s program (2006), one of the first Canadian Studies PhD tracks (2011), added a PhD track in International Development Studies of Major English-Speaking Countries (2017), and started postdoctoral recruitment (2018). In 2019, it joined the “Confucius China Studies Program,” admitting international doctoral students from major English-speaking countries.

Since 2015, it has published Annual Report on Canadian Policy Development (winning Canada’s International Research Special Award), initiated international forums and lecture series, and undertaken numerous national projects. Its achievements have earned top honors like CTTI’s Special Prize. Many scholars have been selected into key talent programs. In 2024, it was rated Grade A in the national assessment and selected as one of six national model cases.
