BEIJING —The British Studies Center at the School of English and International Studies (SEIS), Beijing Foreign Studies University, has been selected in August 2025 for inclusion in the China Think Tank Comprehensive Evaluation Project (2025) AMI Think Tanks roster, following institutional nomination, expert review, and final selection. The designation places the Center among 558 high-performing think tanks nationwide.
Established in 2011, the British Studies Center has advanced a “new-type” think tank model oriented toward policy-relevant scholarship. In 2021, its case study, Exploring the Social Service Value of the Report on the Development of the UK, was featured as a reference case in the project’s Social Service category—recognition of the Center’s contributions to evidence-based analysis and public service.
The AMI evaluation—conducted on a four-year cycle—assesses think tanks across three core dimensions: Attractiveness, Management, and Impact, providing an authoritative, comprehensive view of institutional strength and public reach in China’s knowledge ecosystem.
As part of SEIS’s wider area-studies ecosystem, the British Studies Center collaborates with sister units in literature, linguistics, translation, and regional studies to support research, teaching, and student mentorship. This networked structure enables the Center to pair country-specific expertise with interdisciplinary methods that speak to global audiences.
Looking ahead, the Center will continue to deepen high-quality research on the United Kingdom, expand academic partnerships, and train students with the global perspective and public-minded scholarship needed to engage meaningfully with today’s policy conversations.
