Department of Translation and Interpreting

The Department of Translation and Interpreting was founded in 2007 to meet the growing needs in the increasingly open China for professionals competent in both Chinese and English. It was developed from the undergraduate minor program of translation and the graduate programs of translation that date back to early 1950s and 1980s respectively within the then Department of English.

The Department offers four degree programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. BA in Translation and Interpreting offers training in translation, interpreting, and cross-cultural communications, and engages students with large amount of hands-on translation and interpreting experience, especially in areas that concern arts, humanities, and social sciences. Curriculum includes courses on English proficiency, Chinese language and literature, translation and interpreting competence respectively.

On the graduate level, MA in Translation Studies is a full-time research program extending three years. MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting) is a credit-based professional program that lasts two years. LittD in Translation Studies is primarily a research degree program. The period of study for full-time students is between three and four years.
